Elden Burkett Maddocks, Jr., 86, of Union, passed away Sept. 9 at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.
Elden was born Sept. 5, 1920 in Appleton, a son of Elden, Sr. and Claudia Grinnell Maddocks.
He was a graduate of Washington High School, Class of 1938. He worked on Merrifield Farm, milking cows, and at the Roosevelt Conservation Corps. He served in the Libertarian Forces for the Philippines during WWII.
For 20 years he worked as a licensed practical nurse at the Wassaic State School in New York. He returned to school at the Dutchess Community College and became a registered nurse.
He married Ocie Saunders and they made their home in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. After Ocie’s death, he retired from nursing and returned to Waldoboro in 2002.
Elden was predeceased by his wife, Ocie Saunders Maddocks, in 2004.
Survivors include stepchildren, Constance Silbukin of Arizona, and Helen Murray and husband Gerald of Hyde Park, N.Y.; nephews, David Murray of New York and Robert Bickmore and wife Pam of Kittery; niece, Barbara Robertson of New York; two cousins; sister, Ellen Bickmore of Kittery; and special friends, Dot and Ralph Sprague of Waldoboro.
At Elden’s request, there will be no services.
