Elsie Margaret “Johnny” Beane, 82, of Wiscasset, died Oct. 8 at her home where she was born and resided her entire life.
She was born in Wiscasset on June 27, 1926, a daughter of Harvey C. and Cora M. (Lessner) Beane.
She attended schools in Wiscasset where she was given the nickname Johnny. She worked at Bath Iron Works and for 38 years was self employed as a clam and marine worm digger. She was later employed at Stinson Canning Factory in Bath where she was recognized as an outstanding employee. She retired at the age of 79 when the factory closed. She was a member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church.
Johnny loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Her life and escapades on the waters around Wiscasset and Westport Island and in the woods of the surrounding area were legendary. Her dry sense of humor and warm nature will be sorely missed.
She was predeceased by her beloved sister Grace L. (Beane) Field in 2003.
She is survived by her nephew, Sumner Field III and wife Diane of Gray; a cousin, Delores Carver of East Boothbay; three great-nephews; two great-nieces; a great-great-nephew and two great-great-nieces.
Graveside service 11 a.m., Fri., Oct. 17 at Old Greenlawn Cemetery in Wiscasset with Mother Ann Lovejoy Johnson officiating.
