Elvin L. Anderson, 94, of Damariscotta, passed away peacefully at the Gregory Wing in Boothbay Harbor on the morning of July 27. Born on July 18, 1921 in Portland, Ore., he was the only child of Elder and Inez (Wood) Anderson.
Elvin grew up in Portland, Ore., attending and graduating from schools there. He received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Portland before joining the U.S. Navy Air Corps, where he served as a Navigator Bombardier during WWII. Upon his honorable discharge, he attended the University of Minnesota, where he received his Master’s degree and met his future wife, Margaret Kallberg.
He and Margaret wed on July 31, 1948 and moved to New Jersey, where Elvin started a career in the pharmaceutical industry with Smith, Kline & French, which is now part of GlaxoSmithKline. He retired from there after 35 years of service and moved around before settling in Damariscotta in 1989.
Elvin was an avid bridge player, golfer, and gardener. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by wife, Margaret Anderson of Damariscotta; children, James Anderson and wife Jill of Georgia, Christine Anderson and husband Albert Monaco of Alna, and Steven Anderson and wife Carolyn Rothschild of Minnesota; and grandchildren, Curt and Suzanne Monaco, and Ralph and Ian Anderson.
