Ernest H. Giles Jr., 69, of Boothbay, passed away peacefully Aug. 24 at home with his beloved family at his side.
Ernest was the son of Ernest Giles Sr. and Ida Andrews Giles.
Ernest grew up in Boothbay and attended local schools. He started working with his family, Milton Giles & Sons Construction. He later went to work at the Gamage Shipyard in East Boothbay as a welder. He moved onto Bath Iron Works as a welder, then later worked as a machinist until he retired with at least 30 year’s work at BIW.
Ernest was a member of the Boothbay Fish and Game Association. He loved gardening. He was a wonderful husband and went out of this way to always help his children.
Ernest leaves his wife of 49 years, Linda of Boothbay; daughters, Valerie Giles of Boothbay, Claire and husband David Cole of Strong; son, Christopher Giles of Livermore Falls; sisters, Judith Giles Johnson of Boothbay, and Laurie and husband Ron Abbott of Boothbay Harbor; grandson, Nicholas Cole of Strong; grandson, Kyle Wilson of Boothbay; granddaughter, Cameron Serina of Portland; and many nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Ernest’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Mon., Aug. 28 at the Evergreen Cemetery on the Barters Island Road, Boothbay.
