Esther Laura (Light) Jackson, 89, died Jan. 1 in Winter Garden, Fla. She lived most of her life in Waldoboro, Nobleboro, Brunswick and Topsham and recently had been living in Florida near her daughters.
She was born April 13, 1919 in Waldoboro, the youngest daughter of Chester N. and Lulu A. (Creamer) Light. She attended Waldoboro schools and graduated from Lincoln Academy in Newcastle. On June 23, 1938 she married Carlton M. Jackson.
Mrs. Jackson was a member of The United Methodist Church of Brunswick, was an active member of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension Service, both in Brunswick and Durham, also the Barron’s Hill Craft Group, Topsham, and was a former member of the Sage Swingers Square Dance Club. She also traveled extensively. She was employed as a bookkeeper for Alton Prock Logging, Construction, and Maine Contractors, and as a credit officer at the Government Employees Credit Union at the Brunswick Naval Air Station.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton Jackson; son, Brian Jackson; grandson, Stephen Hanna; brothers, Eldon and Charles Light; and sister, Minnie (Light) Spector.
She is survived by two daughters, Sherry (Jackson) Hanna of Orlando, Fla., and Johnna (Jackson) Jackson of Lake City, Fla.; six grandchildren, Kimberly Adkins of Bend, Ore., Jason Jackson of Bend, Ore., Adam Hanna of Stratham, N.H., Lee Ann Cook of Boring, Ore., Bill Jackson of Port Angeles, Wash., and Jim Jackson of McDonough, Ga.; and 13 great-grandchildren.
