Francis R. Latter, 69, of Boothbay Harbor, died March 12 at his residence in Boothbay Harbor. Francis was born Aug. 12, 1940 in Boothbay Harbor, a son of Richard and Mary Dickerson Latter. He was a graduate of Boothbay Region High School in the class of 1958. After high school he began working at the Cold Storage Locker. He worked at the former Fuller Shipyard in East Boothbay, for Anderson & Gaw plumbing & heating, for Jim Bryer as a contractor and since 1983 as a cottage caretaker for locals and summer families.
He was a past president of the Boothbay Harbor Lions Club where he was a member for 20 years. Fanny was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow Lions Award for dedicated humanitarian services by Lion Club International Foundation.
He enjoyed drag racing since 1961 and he often raced in Sanford, Oxford, Epping, and Winterport, New Hampshire New England Dragway. He raced a number of different cars.
He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Latter.
He is survived by brothers, Billy Latter of Boothbay Harbor, and Bobby Latter of Boothbay; nieces and nephews, Sue, Shelly, Cathy, Richard Latter, Rob, Mickey, and Tracy; and special friend, Penny Donovan.
Visiting hours March 14 at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Rd., Boothbay. Funeral March 15 at the funeral home. Al Roberts officiated. Burial followed in the Oceanview Cemetery in Boothbay.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Francis’ memory may be made to Boothbay Harbor United Methodist Church or Boothbay Harbor Lions Club.
