Frank Maragioglio, 90, passed away March 8 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law in Jefferson.
The son of Vincenzo and Filippa (Destafano) Maragioglio, he was born in East Boston, Mass. on June 18, 1916.
He attended East Boston, Mass. public schools and following his high school graduation, entered the U.S. Army. While serving honorably, Frank was a radio operator. Following his discharge, he worked throughout his entire career as a newspaper linotype operator, retiring in 1978.
On Sept. 16, 1943, he married Frances Plummer from Damariscotta Mills and following retirement in 1978, the couple came back to Maine. While here, he became an active communicant at St. Patrick’s Church, where he served as an usher for 30 years.
Frank was a longtime member of the Wells-Hussey American Legion Post in Damariscotta. He had a lifelong love for gardening, hunting, and fishing and all Boston, Mass. sports.
Frank is survived by his loving children, Mary F. Vallance and husband David of Jefferson, and James F. Maragioglio and wife Sue of Stoneham, Mass.; sister, Jenny Hartwell of Saugus, Mass.; brother, Steven Maragioglio of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; grandchildren, Christopher Vallance and wife Rachel of Jefferson, Grace Dufour and husband Vincent of Gardiner, and Janet Maragioglio-Nixon and husband Mike of Charleston, S.C.; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to be with the family 2-4 p.m., Sun., March 11 at Strong Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta.
Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m., Mon., March 12 at St. Patrick’s Church in Newcastle, with Rev. Alfred Irving officiating.
He will be laid to rest with his wife at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
