Fred Murray, 81, of Edgecomb, died on July 2 at the Gregory Wing St. Andrews Village, Boothbay Harbor, with his loved ones by his side. Born on May 19, 1934 in Bath, he was the son of Kenneth and Alfrieda (Gowan) Murray.
Fred attended Morse High School in Bath. His first job was at Burgess Market in Bath where he was trained as a meat cutter. He also worked at Bath Iron Works several years. He attended Bible school in Lenox, Mass., becoming assistant pastor of the Glorious Gospel Church in Topsham for five years. In 1985 he and his wife started Murray’s Groundskeeping Inc. in Topsham, which they ran until he retired and sold the business in 1998. They moved back to Edgecomb in 2001. During his lifetime he and his wife owned and operated several businesses.
He was a strong-willed, determined man, but underneath he had a genuine sincere love for the Lord, his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Fred and his wife traveled extensively through the states and took their dream cruise to Alaska. They were married 59 years. He was involved in ministry from 1963 when he accepted the Lord as his Savior. He played guitar and loved gospel and country music! He enjoyed the simple life of family, his dog, owning a small farm in Edgecomb for a while, milking cows, and riding horses.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Beatrice Daigle and Alma Page; brother, Kenneth Murray Jr.; and son, Blaine G. Murray.
He is survived by his wife, Delight Greenleaf Murray of Edgecomb; daughters, Heidi Murray and husband Craig Saunders of Edgecomb, and Crystal Murray; grandchildren, Angela, Justin, Joshua and Isaac Krainis, Chelsey Murray, and Laura Cloutier; great-grandchildren, Boston, Eliya and Isaiah Krainis, Kyle Joy, Gage Frank, and Gabbie; as well as cousins, nephews and nieces.
Fred and Delight were members of Boothbay Community Fellowship where a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 p.m., Sun., July 12 at The American Legion Hall in Boothbay. Fred wanted everyone to remember him with funny, happy memories, so that is what will be shared. Please join us in celebrating his life, and bring a smile! Casual attire, please; he would want everyone to be comfortable, as well.
