Freda J. Moody Stimpson, 93, died early Dec. 27 at Quarry Hill in Camden.
She was born March 4, 1921 in Warren, a daughter of Willis and Sadie Castner Moody.
Freda attended schools in Fairfield and Warren, graduating from Warren High School in the class of 1938. She also attended Ballard Business School in Rockland.
Freda married Guy Stimpson on Nov. 26, 1939. They made their home in Warren. She waitressed at her niece’s diner, The Coffee Break, in the 1970s. Freda enjoyed working at the Union Fair, where she donated many blueberry pies, and she could always be found in the kitchen cooking at any function being held at the Odd Fellows Hall in Warren. She was a 65-year member of the White Oak Grange #182 in Warren. When White Oak closed in 2001 she joined the Pioneer Grange #219 in Union. She was a member of the Knox Pomona, the Maine State Grange and the National Grange and received her 70-year certificate in September 2006. Mrs. Stimpson served as an advisor to the Silver Starlet Theta Rho Girls Club for 30 years.
She was Past Master of White Oak Grange, Past Noble Grand of Mystic Rebekah Lodge #51, Past Chief Matriarch of Mt. Horeb Ladies Emcampment Auxiliary #34, Past President of Lafayette #18 Ladies Auxiliary Patriarch Militant of Warren, member of Rebeckah Assembly of Maine and the Deportment Association Ladies Auxiliary Patriarch Militant of Maine. She was a past District President of District 15, Past President of Ladies Auxiliary Fire Department, honorary member of the Knox County Fire Department, honorary member of the Knox County Firefighters Association and one of the original crew of Warren Ambulance Service. She was also the association leader of White Oak 4-H Club. Freda was a longtime member of The First Baptist Church in Warren.
After her fall in 2007, she lived at the Methodist Conference Home in Rockland. She loved being around people, especially her daughter. She participated in and enjoyed many of the activities that were held at the Methodist Conference Home.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Guy Stimpson, who passed away in September 1995; her parents; six sisters; a brother; and several grandchildren.
She is survived by daughters, June A. Ingraham and husband William of Rockland, Linda Turner and husband Donald of Union, Cheryl Eaton and husband Richard of Rockland, and Sharon Parreault and husband Alfred of Warren; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends are welcome to join the family for a time of visitation from 1-2 p.m., Sat., Jan. 3, 2015 followed by a celebration of Freda’s life at 2 p.m. at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. Rev. Linwood Welch, Pastor of The First Baptist Church of Warren, will officiate.
