Frederick Larry Scott, 88, of Whitefield, passed away unexpectedly Feb. 17 at his home.
He was born in Caswell Plantation in Caribou, Aug. 2, 1919, a son of James and Annie Bell Scott. A graduate of Kennebec School of Commerce in Gardiner, Fred was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving in an anti-aircraft unit.
He was a postmaster in Whitefield for the U.S. Postal Service for 25 years.
He was a member of the Whitefield Fire Department, Whitefield Grange, and the Whitefield Cemetery Association.
He is survived by his wife, Lydia Brown Scott of Whitefield; daughters, Lydia Susanne Choate and husband Roland of Farmingdale, and Elizabeth Presby of Whitefield; grandchildren, Michael Presby and wife April, Peter Lee Presby, Nathan Presby and girlfriend Cassie Clark, Nicholas Presby and girlfriend Lisa Peaslee, William Scott Choate, Roland Choate Jr. and fiancée Marie, and Debra Dill and husband Bob; great-grandchildren; Jordan Choate, Joshua Choate, Melissa May Dill, Anna Marie Dill, Melissa Peaslee, Joseph Peaslee, Morgan E. Presby, Ariel A. Presby, Gwendolyn Presby, Michael Presby, Jr., and Annalee E. Presby; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours noon-1 p.m., Wed., Feb. 20 at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner where a funeral service will follow at 1 p.m.
Burial will be later in the spring in the Whitefield Cemetery.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Staples Funeral Home, Gardiner.
