Frederick Macdonell Fradley, 92, passed away peacefully April 2 in Brunswick.
Frederick was the husband of the late Dorothy Davis (Richard) Fradley to whom he was married for 51 years. He was born in Bronxville, N.Y., son of the late Justis Frederick and Helen Josephine (Macdonell) Fradley.
Mr. Fradley enlisted and served in the U.S. Army Air Force Asiatic-Pacific Theater, 1942-1946. After completing his military service, he received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Brown University, 1948 and his Master of Fine Arts in Architecture, Princeton University, 1954. While at Princeton he received the Lowell M. Palmer Fellowship in Architecture, the Howard Crosby Butler Prize in Architecture, and the Princeton Scholar in Architecture.
Frederick was an engineer from 1948-1951 for Turner Construction in Philadelphia, Penn., and a project manager for Vincent G. Kling Architects, Philadelphia, Penn., 1954-1961. In 1961, together with his business partner John Bower, he formed Bower and Fradley Architects in Philadelphia, the firm from which he retired in 1978.
For 40 years, Frederick enjoyed his summers in Maine and his winters on St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands, where he and his wife loved sailing and all the joys of island living.
Frederick was the loving father of Stephen Davis Fradley of Stockbridge, Mass., and Wendy Macdonell Fradley Monroe of Boxford, Mass.; grandfather of Justin Fradley Monroe, MD and wife Kirstin Lee Tawse, MD of Denver, Col., Kylah Emily Monroe of Boston, Mass., and Emily Blair Fradley of Charlotte, N.C.; brother of Peter Ganner Fradley of New Paltz, N.Y., and the late Janet Fradley Pirnie of Atlanta, Ga. He will be greatly missed by all, including his long-time best friend and companion Barbara Woodward of Nobleboro.
Frederick’s burial with military honors was held April 8 at Acotes Hill Cemetery in Chepachet, R.I.
