George E. Harris, 71, died Dec. 19 at St. Mary’s D’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston. He was born June 8, 1946 in Lewiston to Elbridge Harris Sr. and Mary Harris. George grew up in Auburn and attended local schools.
He was a self-employed woodcutter for over 40 years. George enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, boxing, and helping his neighbors. He was an avid animal lover. He enjoyed keeping the gardens at the Roak Block looking nice for all of the residents.
He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Joe Harris; and sisters, Dorothy Campbell, Mary-Barbara Harris, and Ruth White.
He is survived by wife, Sandra Harris of Auburn; children, Stacy Harris of Rockland, Sandra Acorn of Jonesboro, George Harris Jr. of Warren, and Susan Simmons of Damariscotta; step-children, David Demers, Terri Bernier, and Tracie Hill; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate George’s life will be announced. A graveside service will be held at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Auburn in the spring of 2018 to be announced.
