Gertrude “Trudy” Herald, 83, of Warren, passed away at her home on the morning of Jan. 8 with her family by her side. Born in Damariscotta Mills on Aug. 23, 1931, she was the daughter of Basil and Helen (Morrison) Wright.
Trudy grew up in Damariscotta and attended local schools. She lived for 20 years in Washington, before moving to Warren in 1984 where she resided until the time of her passing.
She loved to knit and crochet, and would knit beautiful sweaters which she would give away to local nursing homes and area schools. She liked eating out at restaurants, and enjoyed frequenting local yarn and antique shops. Trudy was a fan of Country Western music and enjoyed attending country music festivals.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husbands, Charles E. Crocker, Sr., Stilman Walter Whitney, David N. Murphy, and Earl Herald; as well as sisters, Amy Elizabeth Heath, and Shirley Alice Mank.
She is survived by children, Sharon Leighton and husband John of Washington, Elwyn Crocker and wife Doreen of Winthrop, Charlotte Wright of Augusta, Gloria Dumphy of Thomaston, Charles “Skip” Crocker Jr. and wife Deborah of Lisbon Falls, and Stillman “Bud” Whitney Jr. of Searsmont; stepdaughter, Linda Harrington and husband Bruce of Georgia; stepson, Tim Whitney and wife Linda of Union; brother, Earl Wright of South Bristol; long-time companion, Donald Fish of Thomaston; many grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for a time of visitation 5-7 p.m., Sun., Jan. 11 at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta. A funeral service for Trudy will be held at 1 p.m., Mon., Jan. 12 at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in the Hillside Cemetery in Bremen in the spring.
