Harold W. (Tom) Jones, 84, a lifetime resident of Jefferson, died at his Chase Point apartment on June 19 after a long period of declining health.
He was born in Jefferson on Jan. 23, 1926 to Wilder and Grace Jones, the youngest of nine children.
On his 18th birthday, he received special greetings from his “Uncle Sam” and served in WW II in the 99th Infantry Division in the European Theatre.
Through the years he worked at several jobs. He and his wife, Shirley, ran Jones Antiques & Auction House for 19 years, prior to their retirement. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion Post #149.
In the early years of area dirt track racing, he owned several race cars and later enjoyed NASCAR racing on television.
He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Francis Jones; five brothers and one sister.
Survivors include his stepdaughter, Marcia Prock and husband Maynard of Waldoboro; grandchildren, Darcy Prock of Cape Elizabeth, and Theodore (Todd) Prock and wife Karen of Jefferson; great-grandchildren, Chelsea Cogan and Shelby Cogan of Cape Elizabeth and Brittany Prock and Cameron Prock of Jefferson; great-great-grandchild, Aubrey Senkbeil of Jefferson; brother, Roland Jones and wife Gerry of Jefferson; sister, Doris Boynton and husband Alden of Whitefield; and several nieces and nephews including Robert Jones and wife Valerie of Jefferson, who served as his most recent caregivers.
Visiting hours 6-8 p.m., Thurs., June 24 at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro.
Graveside service 10 a.m., Fri., June 25 at Fairview Cemetery in Jefferson, with a military service.
