Henry William Meyer Jr., 97, of Waldoboro, died July 26 at his home.
Mr. Meyer was born in Jamaica, N.Y. and was the son of the late Henry William and Florence Moore Meyer.
He attended the St. Paul School, N.Y. He also attended and graduated from Exeter Academy, N.H. and continued his education at Harvard College, Cambridge, Mass. receiving a bachelors degree. Following graduation Henry joined the U.S. Navy as an officer and left for WWII.
Following the war Mr. Meyer returned home to Wilmington, Vt. where he was employed for many years in insurance sales. Henry was very active in community affairs around Wilmington, serving in the Lions Club, Masonic Lodge and the school board.
In 1989 Henry and his wife moved to Camden and lived there until moving to Waldoboro in 2004. Mr. Meyer has been a contributor to the Waldoboro Library. He remained active politically and had strong political convictions. Henry enjoyed owning and driving many classic cars throughout his lifetime.
He was predeceased in death by his former wife, Elizabeth Grilk.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Kay Tapp Meyer of Waldoboro; son, John Meyer of Wilmington, Vt.; daughter, Anne Jones of Evergreen, Col.; step-sons, Bo Aylin of Northfield, Minn., and Stuart Aylin of Durham, N.C.; step-daughter, Cara Twenty of New Market, Md.; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
