James O. ‘Jimmy” Hanna, 89, died on May 21 at home after a period of declining health. He was predeceased by his lifelong companion, Dolores (Roberts) Hanna.
Jimmy was born in Bristol on Feb. 4, 1928 and was the son of the late Rupert C. and Olive P. Hanna. He served as a Merchant Marine for several years and was employed for 30-plus years as the manager of the Boothbay Region Transfer Station until his retirement. He also worked as a fish processor at the “freezer.”
Jimmy enjoyed being involved and was active in the area. He served as a Selectman in Boothbay for many years, was on the Board of Trustees for the Cemetery Division in Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor and served as the Dog Constable. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Pythias, Lodge #32 since 1978 and had served as past district deputy. In his spare time he enjoyed riding motorcycles, bowling and was an avid cribbage player.
He was also predeceased by son, Jimmy Hanna; and brother, Phillip Poland.
He is survived by sons, Damon Hanna of Boothbay Harbor, and Kendall Hanna of Starks; and sister, Peggy Rubenstein of Rockland.
At the request of Jimmy’s family there will be no services.
