Jean S. Hanna, 89, longtime resident of Pemaquid Harbor and New Harbor, passed away peacefully on April 6.
Jean was born Nov. 8, 1926 in Clifton Springs, N.Y., the only child of Harold and Mary Stone. She graduated from Phelps High School in 1944 and attended Alfred University where she received an associate degree.
Jean was a homemaker and worked several different part time jobs. She moved to Pemaquid Harbor (with her then husband Jim Smyder) as a full time resident in 1974 and lived there until retiring to Lake Wales, Fla., about 1995. Her favorite job was working summers at the Pemaquid Art Gallery where she was the on-site representative for the Pemaquid Group of Artists.
Jean is predeceased by her parents; son, Jeffrey Veeder; and husband, Mel Hanna.
She is survived by daughters, Mary Odlin Garcia and Sarah Smyder Brown; and grandchildren, Eric Odlin, and Tyler and Cody Brown.
Jean will always be remembered as a devoted and loving mother, wife, grandmother, and friend.
Jean’s sense of humor and cheerful personality will be greatly missed. Her hobbies were gardening, sewing, quilting, playing board and card games, and bible study.
Graveside service will be held at a later date at the Harrington Cemetery in Pemaquid.
