Jennie Louise (Johnson) Crummett, of Whitefield, known to all as Louise Crummett, died in Augusta on Feb. 25.
The daughter of Herbert F. Johnson and Anna Etta (Chadwick) Johnson, she was born in Whitefield on Aug. 31, 1925.
Louise graduated from a one-room elementary school in North Whitefield, and Hallowell High School, while staying with grandparents, William and Jennie Johnson. She also attended Coburn Classical Institute in 1942, and finished Gradwohl School of Laboratory Technique and X-Ray with credentials.
While employed at Gardiner General Hospital, she married Thurlow E. Crummett on Sept. 16, 1944. Thurlow and Louise had three children: Carolyn, Thurlow Jr, and Linda.
Thurlow Sr. and daughter, Carolyn predeceased her.
She is survived by Thurlow Jr. and Linda Crummett LeClair; and stepbrothers, William Johnson of Arizona, and Richard Johnson of Missouri.
The LeClairs of Pittston became Louise’s extended family for many years. Paul LeClair and Louise enjoyed winter trips to Florida where Paul played golf and Louise enjoyed playing cribbage and sewing cross-stitch.
Michael and Linda LeClair of Pittston cared for Paul Sr. and Louise for many years, and continued primary care of Louise for four years following Paul Sr.’s death.
Visiting hours 4-7 p.m., Thurs., Feb. 28 at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner.
Funeral 11 a.m., Fri., Feb. 29 at Christ Church, Gardiner. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in Jefferson in the spring beside her husband.
