Jo Dolengowski, 65, of Damariscotta, passed away at her home on Sept. 14 with her loving husband by her side. Born in 1951 in Clinton, Ill., she was the daughter of William and Mary (Jordan) Magill.
Jo obtained her RN Nursing degree in Illinois in 1973, and moved to Miami, Fla. where she worked as an RN until 1977 when she moved to Detroit, Mich. and went back to school in order to become a Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). She graduated in 1979, and worked in the Detroit area for a year and a half as a CRNA before moving to Houston, Tex. where she worked at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. After retirement, Jo and her husband split their time between their home in Florida and their home in Damariscotta. Her Maine home was always very special to Jo.
Jo was a woman of deep Catholic faith, as well as a tireless volunteer with dozens of organizations. She loved outdoor activities and helping people. Because of her positive, caring, and selfless attitude, Jo had many friends. She had a gift for making others feel good when they were around her.
Jo was predeceased by her parents, William and Mary (Jordan) Magill.
She is survived by husband, George Dolengowski, of Damariscotta and Lakewood Ranch, Fla.; mother-in-law, Anne Dolengowski of Rochester Hills, Mich.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Cynthia and Thomas Eastment of Chevy Chase, Md. and their daughters, Leah and Elsa; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Patricia and Douglas Dolengowski of Rochester Hills, Mich. and their children, Matthew and Kimberly.
A funeral Mass to celebrate Jo’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Tues., Sept., 20 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Newcastle. A rosary will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the old church at St. Patrick’s before processing by foot to the mass.
