John Christopher Therriault, 53, of Wiscasset, passed away on the evening of Sept. 2 at the LincolnHealth – Miles Campus in Damariscotta. Born in Lewiston on Sept. 21, 1962, he was the son of Paul and Shirley (Williams) Therriault.
John spent his early years living in New York, and attended elementary school there. At the age of seven, he and his family moved to Lewiston, and later to Damariscotta Mills, where he would graduate from Lincoln Academy in 1980.
Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served for seven years, visiting 25 countries and 40 different ports, before being honorably discharged as a 1st Class Engineer. He received his B.S. degree in history and sociology from UNYA in 1987.
He worked as a Power Plant Engineer at the Jay Paper Mill for 15 years before moving to California. While there, he worked as a real estate and insurance broker, and finally worked in the credit repair business. He moved back to Maine in 2012, settling in Wiscasset in 2015, where he was the manager of storage facilities there.
John was a Chess master, and enjoyed both playing and studying the game. He enjoyed trout and salmon fishing, and enjoyed being with his family. A self described “eternal optimist,” he will be missed by all who knew him.
He was predeceased by his father, Paul E. Therriault.
He is survived by mother, Shirley Tisdale and husband Donald of North Dakota; brothers, Paul Therriault of Oxford, and Roger Therriault of San Diego, Cal.; fiancee, Peggy Thoner of Wiscasset; and nephews, Brandon Therriault and wife Sandra, and Alex Therriault.
A funeral with military honors will be held at 10 a.m., Thurs., Sept. 8 at St. Patrick’s Church in Newcastle.
