Judith L. Whitney, 69, of Damariscotta, passed away at her home on July 6 with family by her side. She was born on Oct. 25, 1941 in Damariscotta to the late Gerald Weston and Ruth Busby. She grew up in the local area, eventually moving to Warren where she attended local schools and later met her husband, Edward H. Whitney, whom she married in 1958.
Judy was first and foremost a loving wife and mother. She had an endless capacity for kindness and during her lifetime found numerous ways to give of herself to those in need. One of her greatest joys was being able to create and oversee a service that allowed the elderly to remain in their homes, with appropriate care and support, until their death. She ran this service for more than 20 years until her own declining health required her to retire in 2000. Even then, she found ways to stay involved in her community, most recently by becoming a volunteer for Elder Power, making regular telephone contact with elderly individuals to check on their well being.
Judy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Nobleboro.
Besides her parents, Gerald and Ruth, she was predeceased by her husband, Edward H. Whitney in July of 2006; sisters, Geraldine Payson and Lorraine Garvey; as well as stepfather, the Reverend Curtis Busby.
Survivors include her daughters, Ruth Curley and husband Brian of Portland and Donna Lampros and husband Steve of Bath; son, Mark Whitney of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; grandchildren, Erica Harmon and husband Daniel of Annapolis, Md. and Kate Curley and William Curley, both of Portland; sisters, Iverne Peck and husband Adney of Nobleboro and Ellie Busby of Damariscotta; brothers, Matthew and wife Bridget of Rhode Island, Christopher and wife Sharon of Colorado and Leon Busby of Walpole; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Memorial service 2 p.m., Tues., July 12 at the First Baptist Church of Nobleboro with the Rev. Robert Wyand officiating. Burial will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery in Damariscotta.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Judy’s memory may be made to the First Baptist Church of Nobleboro, 35 Center St., Nobleboro, ME 04555 to support the window replacement fund.
