June Soule Grierson, 72, of Union, died peacefully with her mother by her side on Sept. 9 at the Knox Center for Long Term Care after a period of failing health.
June was born June 27, 1938 in Camden, the daughter of Esten and Ruth Dean Soule, and attended a one room schoolhouse in Hope. She returned to school in adulthood, and received her GED from Medomak Valley High School in 1974; the same year her oldest son graduated from high school.
She was employed for many years at Van Baalens in Rockland as a stitcher, and also worked in many local restaurants. June loved to do crossword puzzles, watch soap operas, read her Bible, and collect Elvis memorabilia and other collectibles.
She always enjoyed family gatherings, spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Richard Grierson on Sept. 15, 2008; father, Esten Soule; and brother-in-law, Marshall “Sam” Payson.
Survivors include her mother, Ruth Soule of Union; children, Richard Lee Grierson and wife Rosanne of Union, Robert Grierson and his fiancée Lorna Tucker of St. George, Todd Grierson of Union, Dean Grierson and wife Amy of Waldoboro, and Laurie Grierson and fiancé Stephen McKellar of Washington; grandchildren, Ian Grierson and wife Beth of Union, Adam Grierson of Texas; Kyle Grierson of Thomaston, Emily Dean of Damariscotta, Tyler Dean of Washington, Jesse Grierson and Brittany Grierson of Waldoboro and Samuel Grierson of Union; great-grandchild, Olivia Grierson of Union; and sisters, Lorraine Payson and companion Tom McGrath of Union and Deanna Doughty and her husband Eugene of Virginia.
Celebration of June’s life 2 p.m., Wed., Sept. 15 at the Lakeview Cemetery, Union.
