Kermit P. Clark, 94, of Damariscotta, passed away on the morning of Jan. 19 at the Vicarage By The Sea in Harpswell. Born in Bremen on Sept. 10, 1914, he was the son of William O. and Jennie (Poole) Clark.
Kermit graduated from Lincoln Academy in the class of 1933. On June 20, 1947, he married Lucille McDougall and the couple made their home in Damariscotta. They were married for 58 years, before she passed on Nov. 22, 2005.
During WWII, Kermit worked as a civilian for the Naval Shipyard in Pearl Harbor. Back here in Maine, Kermit worked as a carpenter for Albert Bouffard and he also worked for many years at Damariscotta Hardware. For most of his working career though, he was the manager of the State Liquor Store in Damariscotta.
Kermit was a very active part of the community. He was a volunteer for the Massasoit Engine Company in Damariscotta and was a life member of the Masons. He was also a member of the Route 66 Snowmobile Club. For many years, he raised and lowered the flags at the waterfront on a daily basis. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, snowmobiling and fishing, including lobstering.
Besides his wife, he was predeceased by two brothers, Guy and Horace; and one sister, Elizabeth.
He is survived by two nieces, Sandra Evans of Florida, and Jennie Clark Houston of North Carolina; sister-in-law, Emma Clark of North Carolina; two great-nephews, Phil and Owen Cunningham; great-niece, Vonceal Grant; and many great-great nieces and nephews.
Graveside service for Kermit will be announced, and held, in the spring.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of the Strong Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 612 Main St., Damariscotta.
