Leslie Jay Staley, 58, of Waldoboro, passed away Oct. 31. He was a true fighter with nine lives against his 25-year fight with cancer. He was born June 6, 1957 in Columbus, Ga. to Leslie and Edith (Ellis) Staley.
Leslie’s father was in the military so he moved quite a bit as a child, from Georgia to Germany to Italy to New Jersey and finally to Maine. His early education was in New Jersey and he graduated from Medomak Valley High School in 1975. Out of high school he worked for the Ford dealership and Roland A. Genthner’s business in Waldoboro followed by a career in the automotive industry at Hillside Auto Body for 23 years. He opened Staley and Sons Gun Sales and Repair in 1995.
Leslie loved riding his Harley and was a member of the Augusta H.O.G (Harley Owners Group) Chapter. He enjoyed shooting guns and watching action movies. He was very proud to be Cherokee and referred to his pony tail as his Cherokee Roots.
Leslie was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by wife, Deborah (Benner) Staley of Waldoboro; daughter, Loretta Severson and husband Andrew of Lincoln; son, Anthony Staley and wife Evelin of Levant; brother, Justin Staley and companion Marilyn of Florida; grandsons, Drew Severson of Lincoln, David Staley of Levant, Samuel Staley of Levant, and Ashton Severson of Lincoln; granddaughter, Margarita Staley of Levant; half-brother, James Staley and wife Marge of Tennessee; dog, Trouble (a not so miniature Schnauzer) of Waldoboro; and numerous other extended family members.
Visitation will take place from 10:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 12 p.m., Sat., Nov. 7 at Hall Funeral Home in Waldoboro. Interment will take place at Orff-Achorn Cemetery followed by a reception at the Waldoboro VFW Hall, 50 Mill St., Waldoboro.
