Lindsay (Larry) Putnam, 89, of Damariscotta, passed away on Oct. 13. He was born in Randolph on Nov. 17, 1926, the son of Grace (Preble) and Ralph Putnam. He attended Randolph Grammar School and Gardiner Area High School class of 1945. Larry served honorably in WWII in 1225 MP Division. He owned and operated Putnam’s Plumbing and Heating until his retirement. Larry was a member of the Randolph Methodist Church and, upon relocating to Damariscotta, attended the Damariscotta Baptist Church. He served as an advisor for Gardiner Savings Institute, Pine Cone Reelers Square Dance Club and a club in Florida. He served as selectman for the Town of Randolph for three years and was a member of American Legion Post 2 in Augusta and was a member of the Augusta Country Club.
Larry was an avid golfer, and enjoyed the outdoors snowmobiling, ice fishing and boating off Capital Island in Southport. He enjoyed his times in Florida, taking trips, camping in Lubec, square dancing, Tuesday trips to visit old friends in Gardiner and the monthly Randolph Group breakfast gathering.
Larry was predeceased by his first wife of 42 years, Violet Gordon Putnam; grandson, Eric Clark; brothers, Burleigh and Kenneth Putnam; sister, Doris Fyfe; and stepson, David Dodge.
He is survived by second wife of 23 years, Lucille House Putnam; children, Barbara Sweet, husband Todd and children, Robert, his wife Debbie, and their children Erica and Tyler; Steven, and wife Samantha; Patricia Putnam and son, Michael and wife Heather; Lindsay Putnam, and daughters, Courtnay and Catherine; stepson, Brian Dodge and wife Ruth; step-daughters, Lynne Dodge, husband Scott, and children, Carrie, husband CJ their children Ethan, Ella, Eva, and Scott and wife Jessica their child Alex; Julie Hallowell, husband Danny and children, Jennifer, husband Sumner and their children, Harriett and Piper; and Christopher; Nancy Farrin husband Paul and children, Zachary and Joshua; and step-granddaughter, Justina Bilodeau.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to the Randolph Methodist Church, 16 Asbury Rd., Randolph, ME 04346.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Tues., Oct. 18 at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave. in Gardiner. Committal services with Military Honors will be held at 10 a.m., Wed., Oct. 19 at the Maine Veterans Cemetery Chapel with burial to follow.
