After a blessed life, Lorraine Hosey, 91, died on the evening of Sept. 3 during her summer visit with her daughter, Marlene, in Maine.
Lorraine was born in Kingston, Penn. on Feb. 25, 1925 to Helen and Stanley Chimshic. In 1947, she married Robert Hosey. They had five children: Marlene Hosey of South Bristol; Lorraine Scott of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; Roberta Rowe of Marco Island, Fla.; IJ Hosey of Dallas, Penn.; and Bernice Volinsky of Phoenix, Ariz.
Lorraine graduated from St. Vincent’s High School, Plymouth, Penn.; received an RN degree from the Nesbitt Hospital Nursing School in Kingston, Penn.; and received her BS of Nursing from Misericordia College, Dallas, Penn.
She lived in Plymouth and Dallas, Penn. and loved spending family time during the summers at Harvey’s Lake, Penn. She and her husband retired to Marco Island, Fla., where she enjoyed playing tennis, walking the beach, and admiring the sunsets. She was an avid reader, a master at Scrabble, and enjoyed coaching her great-grandchildren at both Scrabble and Rummy-Q. Lorraine remembered the birthdays, anniversaries, and special occasions of all her loved ones, never failing to send a card with a thoughtful note. After her husband’s death, she continued traveling to visit her family or explore new places around the world with her friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; sister, Bernice Simonds; and son-in-law, Richard Green.
She was loved by grandchildren, Jeff Green, Chris Scott, Brigitte Scott, Robert Scott, Lori Scott Daley, Justin Lewis, IJ Hosey Jr., Maria Hosey Bransford, Paul Hosey, Robyn Hosey Athearn, Max Hosey, Eden Volinsky Daugherty, and Ainsley Volinsky Augounou; 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and relatives.
Lorraine gave her large family roots and wings, and every one of them knew her love and support regardless of their geographic location. Several memorial services are being planned around the country. A family memorial service was held in Maine. Following her wishes, her children are planning a gathering for a celebration of her life with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Collier County Library, 2385 Orange Blossom Drive, Naples, FL 34109.
