Lorraine Kay (Carter) Simpson passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of May 9 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
She was born on Dec. 8, 1946 in Waldoboro to Hartwell Delancy Carter and Laura Emma (Murphy) Carter.
Attending local schools, Lorraine graduated from Lincoln Academy in the class of 1964. She dearly loved the ocean and moved to the west coast near the Pacific Ocean when she married in 1969. After a career in the California school systems, she moved back across the country to be near the Atlantic Ocean in her retirement. One of her favorite things was to take a lunch to Rachel Carson Preserve in New Harbor and watch the activities there.
She made many friends throughout her lifetime and kept them all close through the years by writing frequent cards and letters–keeping a specific date book so that she would not forget a single birthday or anniversary.
Her favorite pastimes were listening to country music, and lunching with groups of friends, be it those from her childhood, her working adult years or the newer friends she made in retirement. She loved all things in nature, particularly bird watching, and relished the warmth of the afternoon sun.
She was predeceased by her husband Charles; mother; father; and brother, Joel.
Left to cherish Lorraine’s memory are her daughter, Cindy Hull and husband Art of Martinez, Cal.; son, Robert Simpson of Dallas, Tex.; sister, Janet Chase and husband Stephen of Bristol; grandchildren, Richard Ray Hull and Natalie Alyssa Hull, of Martinez, Cal.; sister-in-law, Anne E. Carter of Phippsburg; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. She will be greatly missed by all.
A celebration of life will be held in the summer.
Donations may be made in Lorraine’s memory to the Bremen Union Church, 523 Waldoboro Rd., Bremen, ME 04551.
