Margaret (Peggy) Brown, passed away on the evening of May 18, after a brave battle with cancer. Peggy was born in Boston, Mass. on May 31, 1942, the daughter of John N. Anestis and Margaret (Hamilton) Anestis. She recently moved to Nobleboro from Gouldsboro, where she and her husband Walter had lived for 28 years in the home they built on Joy Bay.
Peggy was passionate about her family, art, antiques, gardening, cooking, her dog “Bud” and all the beauty of God’s creation. She was an avid art and antique collector and dealer, and a pioneer of selling on eBay. She had an exceptional eye for finding treasures in unlikely places. A talented painter in oil and watercolor herself, she loved painting Maine seascapes and flowers. Peggy made friends wherever she went, and adored her many creative and talented friends in the art, antique and yard sale circles in which she traveled. She was a vibrant life force whose absence has left a hole in our lives and hearts. Through this battle, she would often say she was cradled in Jesus’ arms.
She is survived by her loving husband, Walter C. Brown, Jr.; daughter, Lauren Brown Gagnon and husband Marc of Exeter, N.H.; son, Stephen Brown and wife Tricia, of Cherryfield;beloved grandchildren, Paige and Joshua Gagnon, and Betsey and Reese Brown; and siblings, Joan Owen of Newcastle, John Anestis of Harvard, Mass., and Robert and George Anestis of Phippsburg.
She was predeceased by her youngest brother, Billy Anestis.
At Peggy’s request, a private memorial cookout celebration will be held at her daughter’s home this summer.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maine Seacoast Mission “Edge” youth program, 127 West St., Bar Harbor, ME 04609, which contributes so much to the lives of her granddaughters Betsey and Reese and other children throughout Downeast Maine.
