Maria Kraus Murphy, 89, of Waldoboro, passed away Oct. 2 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta.
She was born Jan. 15, 1921 in Secaucus, N.J., the daughter of the late John M. and Lillian E. Doyle Kraus.
She attended Hoboken High School and graduated from the Jersey City Teacher’s College. She taught school for one year before working at various office jobs in New York City where she met Michael Murphy, her future husband whom she married on June 14, 1958 in New Jersey.
In 1974 they moved to Maine, making their home in Standish, until moving to Waldoboro in 1986.
Maria loved to read and always had a pet cat.
She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Michael Murphy, of Waldoboro.

Time of visitation 10-11 a.m., Fri., Oct. 8, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at the Water of Life Lutheran Church, US Route 1, Damariscotta, with Pastor Hubert Holm officiating.
