Marie Etta (Genthner) Andrews, 69, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Durham, passed away Oct. 1 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta.
Marie was born in Bremen on April 12, 1940 to Clara Maude (Leeman) Genthner and Ashley Genthner. She attended Waldoboro area schools, and went to work for GTE Sylvania for many years. She was a former Rebekahs member-Waldoboro chapter. She met and married her husband Robert “Shorty” Andrews, Sr. in New Gloucester, and they were married for 51 years until his passing on Sept. 8. Together, she and her husband started their own business, Durham Paving Co. which they ran for several years, with Marie as the bookkeeper. They sold the paving business, deciding to “retire”, traveled throughout the United States, making their final home in Fort Myers, Fla. While in Florida, they owned and operated a small maintenance company, Robert Andrews Inc. until Robert’s passing.
Marie loved to knit, cook, go bowling, camping, and spending time with family. She and husband Robert shared a passion for Boston Terriers, having a special place in their lives for their beloved dogs.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Ashley and Clara Genthner; husband, Robert “Shorty” Andrews Sr.; father and mother-in-law, Walter and Alice Andrews; sisters-in-law, Rena Shaw and Monica Genthner; and sister, Virginia Geele.
She is survived by her son, Robert Andrews, Jr. and wife Sonya of Durham; daughter, Holly Flagg and husband Brian of Nobleboro; grandchildren, Brandon Flagg and Allison Flagg of Nobleboro; brothers-in-law, Philip Andrews and wife Dorothy of New Gloucester, and William Andrews and wife Sandra of Mechanic Falls; sister, Evelyn Reed and husband Phil of Friendship; and brother, Ashley Genthner, Jr., of Thomaston.
Joint memorial service for both Marie and her husband Robert was held Oct. 3 at the Hall Funeral Home, Waldoboro. Rev. Robert Dorr officiated.
