Marjorie Edna Freeman, 96, passed away April 2 at the Woodland Center in Rockland.
Marjorie was born in Jefferson on Dec. 3, 1920, the daughter of Elmer and Hazel (Black) Orff. She grew up in Jefferson, attended Jefferson Grade School and graduated from Waldoboro High School.
She married William Freeman on June 10, 1940.
Marjorie was a housewife her whole life, bringing up her children. Her hobbies were history, genealogy and rug hooking. She was a member of the Eastern Star, historical society, and the German Lutheran Society. She was noted for her rug hooking skills and knowledge of local history.
Marjorie is predeceased by her parents; husband, William Freeman; and daughter, Wilma Stover.
She is survived by daughters, Alicia Mortensen of Waldoboro, and Marcia Fontes of Raymond; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brothers, Lincoln Orff of Jefferson, Robert Orff of Jefferson, and Rodney Orff of Jefferson; sister, Ethel Buck of Portland; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marjorie’s name may be made to the Orff’s Corner Church, P.O. Box 1021, Waldoboro, ME 04572.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 7, 1 p.m., at the Orff’s Corner Church, Waldoboro, with Rev. Bob Bellows officiating.
