Mary Elizabeth Douglass Grady, 72, of Waldoboro passed away peacefully April 7 surrounded by family. She was born Jan. 5, 1944 in Whitefield to Chester and Bernice Douglass II.
Mary was educated in Whitefield schools, she attended Erskine Academy and later received her GED. At an early age she worked at her aunt Margaret’s Nursing Home in Coopers Mills. She later became the first female buyer at Associated Grocers in Gardiner. She earned her license as a Real Estate Agent, and eventually retired from BIW.
Most important to Mary was her family and close friends. She enjoyed summers at camp where family and friends would gather for fishing, cookouts, and storytelling. Mary led a very active lifestyle until the very end. She was active in local granges and food pantries, receiving multiple awards for her service including the Spirit of America award.
She was predeceased by her parents; brother, Chester Douglass III; brother, Richard Douglass; sister, Louise Dalton; and twin brother, William Douglass.
Mary is survived by sisters, Marjory and husband Ron Taylor of Ocala, Fla., Florence “Fondi” York of Nobleboro; daughters, Cheryl Giampa of Newmarket, N.H., Shelley Doyon of Augusta, and Sharlene and husband Dale Feltis of Bristol; grandchildren, Dexter Bailey of Tempe, Ariz., Amanda and husband GJ Neagle of Vassalboro, Stephen and wife Danielle Bailey of Jefferson, Adam James of Gardiner, Alicia Berzinis of Newmarket, N.H., Michael Feltis of Boston, Mass., Gordon Feltis of Bristol, and Katie Giampa of Newmarket, N.H.; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Maya, Addison, Jase, and Bretton; along with many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m., Sat., April 16 at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner; following with a graveside service at the Whitefield Cemetery on Route 218. A celebration of life will be held at the Calvary Bible Baptist Church in Whitefield immediately after.
