Matilda “Peggy” Adele Hendrickson Hunt, 95, passed away on the afternoon of Dec. 19. Born on March 13, 1919 in Queens Village, N.Y., she was the daughter of James C. and Jane A. (Cole) Hendrickson.
The youngest of four sisters, all of whom attended the Northfield School for Girls in Northfield, Mass., Peggy competed on the swim team and was chosen May Queen in 1938.
After graduation, Peggy worked as a fashion model in New York City for the Harry Conover Agency before joining Pan American World Airways in the late 1940s, flying all over the world as a stewardess during the golden days of air travel.
She married Ralph Hunt, a Pan Am pilot in 1951, to whom she was married for 61 years. Soon after his retirement, the couple moved from Kinnelon, N.J. to New Harbor in 1983. He preceded her in death in 2012. Peggy volunteered at the Pemaquid Fisherman’s Museum, and was active with the Willing Workers and the New Harbor United Methodist Church.
She is survived by daughters, Candace Hunt of Pittsboro, N.C., and Jane Hunt-Brackett of Kensington, N.H.; grandsons, Chase Hunt Brackett and Theodore William Brackett; and four nieces, and two nephews and their families.
No service is planned at this time.
