Merle S. Grover, 70, a lifelong resident of Wiscasset, died Oct. 9 at Maine Medical Center.
He was born in Wiscasset on March 25, 1938, a son of Ernest H. Sr. and Dorothy (Grover) Grover. He attended Wiscasset schools and graduated from Wiscasset High school in 1956. He was employed by Lincoln Express as a truck driver and then by Yankee Wholesale. He owned and operated Grover’s Laundromat in Wiscasset and co-owned M & H Vending. He owned and operated Libby’s Takeout in Wiscasset. He was later employed for Ron’s Heating in Wiscasset.
He was a member of Sheepscot Links Country Club and the Lewiston Singles Club.
He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren, was an avid golfer, enjoyed dancing, motorcycles, 4 wheeling, snowmobiles, stock car racing and hunting with family.
He was predeceased by one sister, Alberta Titcomb.
He is survived by two daughters, Cathy A. Sherman of Wiscasset and Paula S. Foye and husband Mark of Wiscasset; three brothers, Ernest “Buster” Grover Jr. and wife Elaine of Wiscasset, Clayton Grover Sr. and wife Shirley of Newcastle and Herbert Grover of Wiscasset; three sisters, Ann Merry of Wiscasset, Shirley Bailey and husband Don of Clinton and Dorothy Pickering and husband Maurice of Wiscasset; five grandchildren, Graydon Foye and wife Mary, Justin Foye, Adam Chadbourne and wife Jessi, Katie Sherman and Kevin Sherman; three great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial service 2 p.m., Fri., Oct. 17 at the Woolwich Wiscasset Baptist Church. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the Church Parish Center.
