Ozelie Mary Chapman, 77, of Boothbay, died Dec. 1 at Mid-Coast Hospital in Brunswick following a period of failing health.
Ozelie was born July 1, 1933 in Boothbay Harbor, the daughter of Fidele and Alice Berrouard Peters, attended local schools, and graduated from Boothbay High School in 1950, a year early because she was able to skip a grade ahead during her schooling.
Soon after graduating, she married her first husband, Francis Arsenault, and began their family together. A mom first and foremost, she loved to be her family’s caretaker and reveled in giving all of them her love and devotion. At one time or another, all of her children and grandchildren returned and lived with her at her home.
She was employed for 43 years as a personal care giver for many families in the Boothbay region.
Ozelie attended Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Boothbay Harbor, loved to collect angels, and at one point had over 300 in her collection, some of which were donated to the Cancer Care Center where she was receiving treatment, so other families could receive the comfort and support they offered. A bingo player, she often traveled to many games throughout the state, including Bangor, to play. She also loved to read, crotchet, and tend her flower gardens in the front of her home.
Thanksgiving and Christmas were her favorite holidays. It was just a couple of years ago that she used the hall at the fire station to host her entire family for Thanksgiving, where three turkeys were cooked to feed everyone.
She is predeceased by her first husband Frank Arsenault, who died in 1966; sons, Bruce and Steve Arsenault; sisters, Dawn Giles and Edna Michaud; and brothers, Phil, Robert, Joe, Eddie, and Clifford Peters.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years David Chapman of Boothbay; son, Barry Arsenault and wife Vicki of Woolwich; daughters, Brenda Lord and husband Jerry of Boothbay, Tammy Chubbuck and husband Kevin of Edgecomb and Lisa Orne of Boothbay; stepdaughter, Karen Dalton and husband Raymond of Wiscasset; mother-in-law, Gloria Peters of Boothbay; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
