Philip Baker, a wonderful caring man, father, grandfather, teacher and friend, left this world due to complications from lung transplantation at Duke University Medical Center on May 13.
Philip was born in Damariscotta Nov. 26, 1943, the son of Philip Baker and Thelma Sproul Baker, and the grandson of Roy and Josie Sproul. He grew up in Hatchtown and Sproul Hill Road in Bristol. He graduated from Bristol High School and Maine Central Institute. He received a BA from William Penn University where he was a member of Sigma Delta Pi/Tek fraternity. He received his MA from the University of Southern Maine.
Philip served the students of Kennebunk schools for 32 years.
His interests included sailing, scuba diving, and the eight special trips sailing to the Bahamas on Chanticleer and land cruising by Airstream. He was an avid animal lover.
Phil is survived by his life partner of 20 years, Deborah Plamondon and their fur babies, Kira, Emma, and Acadia; daughter, Amy Baker Cosgriff and husband Jason; son, Shannon Baker and partner Rebecca Tilton; and grandchildren, Wyatt, Savannah, and Cooper Cosgriff, and Jessica Palmer; sister, Carol Joyal and family; and the mother of his children, Joyce Patterson.
Phil will be sadly missed by so many but we will cherish the footprints he left in our hearts.
Per his wishes he will be cremated and buried at sea. A celebration of life will be held early summer.
Phil had received a precious gift of a new lung from a donor and reciprocated by donating his organs. We urge everyone to “donate life” by becoming an organ donor.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Phil’s memory to Lincoln County Animal Shelter, 27 Atlantic Hwy., P.O. Box 7, Edgecomb, ME 04556.
