Raymond Francis Baldwin, 74, of Nobleboro, died peacefully at home on Oct. 22 surrounded by loving family after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Ray was born in Nobleboro on May 9, 1934, a son of Earl H. and Ruth M. Hildebrandt Baldwin. He attended Lincoln Academy and served in the U.S. Army (1956-1958) and U.S. Army Reserves (1958-1962). He began and ended his 30 year career as a well driller for Hatch Well Drillers in Nobleboro, was a machine operator for M&R Giles Construction for several years, and was an attendant at the Nobleboro Transfer Station from 1997 to 2007.
Ray was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. A man of few words, he was always generous in lending his time and support to family and friends in time of need.
He is predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Lester L. and Donald A. Baldwin.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Norma G. Atkinson Baldwin of Nobleboro; daughters, Laurie A. Murphy and husband Bart of Bowdoin, and Tracey Baldwin McGrail and husband Robert of Highland, N.Y.; grandson, Adam D. Garnett and fiancée Tasha Kaler of West Bath; great-granddaughter, Kaydence M. Garnett of West Bath; siblings, Mildred R. Stafford and husband George of Arrowsic, Earl H. Baldwin Jr. and wife Eunice of Orrington, Marjorie E. Murphy and husband Philip of Rice, Minn., Esther E. Swift of Nobleboro, Paul R. Baldwin and wife Linda of Nobleboro, Jean P. Beaulieu of Durham, Dorothy L. Giles and husband Malcolm of Edgecomb, Douglas J. Baldwin and wife Ann of Warwick, R.I., and Robert D. Baldwin and wife Marjorie of Rockport; sisters-in-law, Shirley H. Bailey and husband Merrill of Nobleboro, Martha L. Stafford and husband Leeman of Nobleboro, and many nieces and nephews, and other extended family members.
Memorial service 2 p.m., Mon., Oct. 27 at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. Burial will follow at the Hopkins Cemetery in South Jefferson.
