Richard L. “Dickie” Ames, Sr., 72, of Wiscasset, died March 6 at a Brunswick hospital after a long Illness.
He was born in West Bowdoin on May 25, 1936, a son of Chester and Margarite Ames.
He was an avid hunter, enjoyed reading, watching western movies, and nature programs, as well as watching NASCAR races. He collected match box cars and Dale Earnhart, Sr. memorabilia.
He loved being outside doing anything and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was known as an amazing man. He was hard working and always made sure his family had everything they needed. He would do anything for anyone, even of he didn’t know them, and asked for nothing in return. He was always ready with a joke to make everyone laugh and smile.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather – his family’s hero.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Lisa Ann; one brother; and two sisters.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Martha of Dresden; four children, Sally Marshall and husband Larry of Dresden, Kim Miller and husband John of Hampton, Va., Mark Ames of South Portland, and Richard Ames, Jr. of Brunswick; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; six brothers and sisters; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial service March 4 at Kincer Funeral Home, 130 Pleasant St., Richmond.
