Robert A. Sylvester, 76, passed away unexpectedly at the Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta on Jan. 15. Born in Chelsea, Mass. on April 16, 1933, he was the son of Arthur and Florence (Meserve) Sylvester.
Robert grew up in Melrose, Mass., attended local schools and graduated from Melrose High School in 1951. Upon graduation, he attended and graduated from Tufts University before entering the U.S. Navy in 1955. He served two years in the U.S. Navy, and upon his honorable discharge, he attended Bentley College where he studied business. He later attended Boston University where he earned his Masters Degree in Business Administration. He worked in several business capacities for the government before becoming the business manager for the Grand Lodge of Masons in Boston.
On June 23, 1962 he married Dorothy Sibley, with whom he celebrated his 47th wedding anniversary this past summer. Robert was a longtime member of the Masons and enjoyed gardening and playing his piano. He loved music and enjoyed both playing and listening to classical music.
Together with his wife, they had a summer cottage on Juniper Point in Boothbay Harbor where they loved to spend time with each other. He was an active member of the Damariscotta United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Sylvester of Damariscotta; son, Jonathan Sylvester and wife Jodi Thomas of Portland; and grandson, Henry Robert Sylvester of Portland.
Memorial service 11 a.m., Sat., Jan. 23 at the Damariscotta United Methodist Church.
