Robert “Bob” D. Havenstein Jr., 56, of Nobleboro, passed away at his home on May 14. He fought a long and courageous battle with multiple sclerosis.
Bob was born in Greenwich, Conn. on Feb. 29, 1956. He spent almost all his school years in Greenwich where he excelled in baseball. In 1972 he moved to Maine on Damariscotta Lake with his family. He did his senior year at Lincoln Academy where he was on the wrestling team. Living on the lake, Bob enjoyed boating and fishing. He was an avid golfer, exhibited his art talents with his many pen and ink drawings and loved his motorcycle.
After graduating, Bob had short stints with lobstering and pumping gas. It wasn’t long before he migrated south to the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Fla. He worked there many years coordinating functions and events. He enjoyed his work there with his great sense of humor and was known to be quite the prankster. Bob moved back to Maine in 1998 when he was diagnosed with MS.
Bob was predeceased by his mother, pianist Muriel Havenstein, who passed away in 2009.
He is survived by his father, Robert Havenstein Sr. of Nobleboro; sisters, Chris Havenstein of Brunswick and June H. Gallant of Nobleboro; niece, Erin Kinney Henry and husband Robert; great-nephews, Logan and Mason Henry, all of Frisco, Tex.; nephew, Walton Kinney of Lamoine; and fearless four-legged dog, Deisel, who was his companion right to the end.
