Robert D. Havenstein, 90, of Nobleboro, passed away peacefully at his home Sept. 14. He was born in Manhattan, N.Y. on May 2, 1924.
Bob grew up in Old Greenwich, Conn., and was graduated from Greenwich schools.
After serving in the Marines, he married Muriel Ritchie from the Bronx and settled down to raise a family at Tod’s Mansion on Long Island Sound in Old Greenwich.
He spent all his years in sales, beginning with National Airlines in NYC. While selling cargo space on airplanes, he also ran Bob’s Pet and Hobby Shop in Old Greenwich.
His family roots were in Maine so many summers were spent at the Bailey camp on Damariscotta Lake.
Bob and his family finally retired to Maine, his dream, on Damariscotta Lake in the early 1970s. He started up the first airport limousine service from Damariscotta to Portland Jetport with his office in Wiscasset, later moving the office to Bath.
He retired once again and opened up Bob’s Tropical Fish in Nobleboro showcasing over 100 fish tanks. He expanded his business to include Kites to Fly, Bob’s Lobsters, and I’m Puzzled.
Bob is predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Muriel; and son, Bobby who passed in 2012.
Surviving are his daughters, Christine Havenstein of Brunswick, and June H. Gallant and husband Jerry of Nobleboro; granddaughter, Erin Henry and husband, Robert, and their children, Logan, Mason, and Morgan of Frisco, Tex.; and grandson, Walton Kinney and wife Tara of Lamoine.
There is no service. The family will have a gathering next summer.
