Robert Allen Giles, 66, of Edgecomb, died on Sept. 24 at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor.
Robert was born in Boothbay Harbor on March 12, 1942, the son of Drummond Osbourne and Mellie Boudway Giles. He attended Edgecomb schools and graduated from Wiscasset High School, class of 1960.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served, in Vietnam and was discharged in 1963. He remained a member of the reserves until 1966.
While living in Wilmington, Del., Robert worked for Boeing Aircraft for a year, then returned to his home in Edgecomb. He ran M & R Giles contractors for almost 30 years with his brother Mac. Among his passions was classic were and collecting coins. (His son said that he could spot a wheat penny a mile away.)
Survivors include his daughter Dianna Santos of Boise, Ida.; son, Robert D. (Bobby) Giles of Brunswick; brothers, Malcolm Giles of Edgecomb and Kenneth Giles; and grandchildren, Alyssa Santos of Boise, Ida., Lydia Williams of Gardiner, and Kaiden Giles of Brunswick.
Memorial service 2 p.m., Mon., Sept. 29 at the Edgecomb Congregational Church on Cross Point Rd. The Rev. Dr. Thomas Clough will officiate.
Committal 10 a.m., Tues., Sept. 30 at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Mount Vernon Rd. in Augusta.
