Robert J. Lemar, 83, of Dresden, died at his home on Jan. 16.
He was born in Guilford on Jan. 21, 1929, a son of George Lemar and Ethel Conley Lemar.
Bob was a hard worker. He began his working career at the age of nine. He has worked in the woods cutting Christmas trees. He was a worm digger for 50 years and dug Maine’s largest bloodworm in 1971.
He attended church in Wiscasset with his wife Reta and enjoyed listening to piano music. He also enjoyed gardening, refinishing furniture, hunting, fishing, going for rides and being a jokester.
Bob will be remembered for taking in stray animals and always referred to his house on Blinns Hill as “the farm.” He had a kind heart and was always willing to help his neighbors, community and family.
Bob was predeceased by his second wife, Mildred, in 1999; sons, Robert Jr., and Kenneth Lemar; sisters, Mary Wilkinson and Gladys Meserve; brothers, Raymond and Lawrence Lemar; and favorite dog, Buddy.
He is survived by his wife of 11½ years, Reta Russell Lemar of Dresden; daughter, Wilma Martel of Rochester, N.H.; sons, Jimmy Lemar and partner James Rodrique of Augusta, and Roger Lemar of Dresden; brothers, John Lemar of Whitefield, Joe Lemar of Dresden, David Lemar of Dresden, and Archie Lemar of Randolph; sisters, Georgia Bryant of Brunswick, Ethel Pettengill of Winthrop, Annie Pratt of Corinna, Jerry Blake of Richmond, and Carol Lemar of Dexter; step-granddaughter, Cecile Prescott of Gardiner; granddaughters, Kim MacDonald of West Gardiner, Milissa, Angela, and Lisa; grandsons, Lee Lemar of Pittston, Paul Lemar of Kingfield, and Eric and Mike; great-grandchildren; and many step-children, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours 4-7 p.m., Mon., Jan. 21 at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner. Burial will be in the spring at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Pittston.
