Robert Libby Green, of Englewood, Fla., passed away following a brief illness on March 1.
Bob was born Nov. 19, 1933 in Portland to Harold Edgar and Irene Libby Green. Bob graduated from Deering High School, class of 1951. In 1955 he graduated from Gorham State Teachers College where he was captain of the baseball team and played freshman and Junior Varsity basketball.
Following his graduation from college, Bob worked for the Brunswick Recreation Department as athletic director. In 1956 Bob began his teaching and coaching career with Waldoboro High School and then Medomak Valley. Over the course of his career in Waldoboro, he was the coach of both the girls and boys basketball teams, the wrestling team, the baseball team and cross-country. In 1970 he led the Panthers’ baseball team to the State Class B Championship.
In 1974, Bob left Medomak Valley to accept a position at Noble High School as assistant principal and athletic director, retiring in 1980.
Coach Green was selected the 1971 Maine High School Baseball Coach of the year, and was inducted into the Midcoast Sports Hall of Fame in 2011.
Bob and his wife, Sandy, enjoyed many summers at their camp at Damariscotta Lake and winters in Englewood, Fla. where they remained active in the local tennis community.
Bob was predeceased by his granddaughter, Amber Westman, in 1999.
Bob is survived by his wife, Sandy; daughters, Sally Hussey and husband Edgar of Sanford, and Karen Dube and husband James of Berwick; grandchildren, Megan Beal, Shelby Westman, and Dylan Dube, all of Berwick; sister, Elizabeth Fogg of Wakefield, N.H.; niece, Andrea Fogg of South Portland; and nephew, Nathan Fogg of Wakefield, N.H.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Sat., June 6 at the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. in Portland. There are no visiting hours scheduled.
