Robert R. Bayard, 83, of East Boothbay, died Nov. 20 at his home.
He was born on Dec. 14, 1933 in Boston, Mass. to Helen (Stockbridge) and Donald Bayard. He grew up in Dedham, Mass., and was a member of the Class of 1952. He played football (state champions), and also was a member of the track team. He enlisted in the Army (Korean Conflict). While in the Army, he trained as an electronics engineer and continued in engineering, was employed at Bath Iron Work when he retired. He was an avid water sportsman, winning several medals in state competition for paddling and crew. He went to sea for three years on his sailboat “Corsair.” He was the happiest when on the water or spending time with his great-grandsons on the tractor.
He was a member of the American Legion, Charles E. Sherman Post, Boothbay.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jane (Frazier); children, Susan A. Bayard of Buxton, Cheryl Libby of Garland, Robert R. Bayard Jr. of Florida, and Neil Bayard of West Newfield; grandchildren, Robert M. LaPage Jr., Jonathan T. LaPage, Ashley and Amanda Bayard, Cara Devoid, Jennifer DeVoid, Erin Boudreau, and Nicholas Bayard; and great-grandchildren, Robert M. LaPage III, with whom he shared his birthday, Vincent LaPage, Caden and Carter LaPage, Raina Fogg, and Jacob and Elizabeth Boudreau.
