Rodney James Cooke, 65, of Round Pond, passed away April 18 after battling a respiratory illness for some time.
He was born Aug. 23, 1942 in Boston, Mass. to Francis and Rodney T. Cooke. Rodney served his country in the Army as a Green Beret. He attended Boston University to pursue studies in political science. He then moved to Maine and married Cyndy Colby.
He had a great love for books, reggae, collecting goodies, his Irish culture, his friends and the water. He traveled extensively. His service as a Merchant Marine provided him with adventures such as a Trans-Atlantic voyage from Spain to the Bahamas aboard a research schooner. Rodney embarked on many personal journeys as well. Exploring religions from Catholicism, to Buddism, to the teachings of the Rastafari. His passion for music was undeniable. Blues and Reggae were his mainstays.
He was always willing to help anyone in any way he could, no matter how small.
Rodney is predeceased by his beloved mother Francis Cooke, and his dog and best friend Fagan.
He is survived by his father Rodney T. Cooke of Nobleboro; sister, Nancy Cotter and husband Allan of St. Croix, U.S.V.I.; nieces, Brooke Cotter and husband Gabe Shadis of Damariscotta, and Courtney Cotter of Park City, Ut.; nephew, Jesse Cotter of Park City, Ut.; and great-niece and nephews Emory Shadis, Aidan Shadis and Kenyan Cotter, all of whom he was proud and greatly adored.
To make it possible for his many out of state friends and family to attend his service, we are waiting and will be holding a service for him in August. Details of the service will be published closer to the date.
