Stephen B. Klein, 75, of New Harbor, passed away on the afternoon of Aug. 19 after an extended illness. Born in Sherborn, Mass. on March 13, 1941, he was the son of Lester and Barbara (Scriven) Klein.
Steve was happiest when he was making his grandchildren smile, working with his hands and riding around in his Ford truck enjoying New Harbor. He loved woodworking, and he created many amazing gifts, furniture and clocks. When the flowers bloomed, and the vegetables popped, you could find him toiling with great pleasure, dirt under his fingernails, pain in his back and a smile on his face. He proudly walked friends and family through his kingdom of beautiful flowers and vegetables. You would often find him driving the rows of his lawn on his John Deere mower in utter contentment.
He also enjoyed relaxing in his easy chair watching the Bruins, Patriots, Red Sox or NASCAR. Steve’s grandchildren were the center of his universe. Whether cheering them on with sports or ballet, listening to all their stories and tales or just having fun. He made sure that they were always laughing and felt special and loved.
He worked at his family’s business, Klein’s Garage and Bus Company in Sherborn, Mass., for over 25 years. He later worked for the Millis School District as a custodian. While in Sherborn, he was a member and Deputy Chief of the Sherborn Fire Department. He retired at the age of 62, and moved to New Harbor shortly after.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sina (Randall) Klein, whom he married in 1992; children, Kimberly Benco and husband John, Kerry Baker and husband Christopher, and William Klein and wife Jean, all of Holliston, Mass.; stepson, Morgan Burg and wife Kristin of Upton, Mass.; grandchildren, Kayla Benco, Ryan Benco, Harrison Baker, Caroline Baker, Liam Baker, Brianna MacDonald, and Sean Klein; as well as several nieces and nephews, including special nephew, Keith Shea, whom Stephen thought of as a son.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Sun., Sept. 4 at the New Harbor Cemetery and a gathering immediately after at The Long Cove Point Association club house.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bristol Fire & Rescue, 2 Quarry Hill Rd., Round Pond, ME 04564.
