Steven A. “Jonsey” Jones, 57, of West Gardiner, formerly of Jefferson, passed away Jan. 3 of a heart attack at MaineGeneral Hospital in Augusta. He was born in Gardiner on Oct. 20, 1954 to Gerry and Roland Jones.
Steve was an arborist and was working with Ron Hickey of Hickey Tree Service in West Gardiner. He was a hard working man who could fix almost anything. He spent most of his life working as an arborist or cutting wood. He spent two years working for A.J. Coleman building the new Federal Prison in New Hampshire and made many lasting friendships during his time in New Hampshire.
Steve loved doing activities outdoors more than anything else. His favorite things to do were fishing, hunting and camping especially in the company of his sons, Caleb and Jacob. He also enjoyed ice fishing with his daughter, Jessica. He was an avid gardener and his skills were reflected all around his home. He was very intelligent and absorbed all that he read or heard. His knowledge of trees and plants was extensive.
He was predeceased by his son, Joshua Jones who died in 1987.
He is survived by his best friend and partner, Sharlene Maschino of West Gardiner; daughter, Jessica Sullivan and husband Ryan of Georgia; sons, Caleb Jones and Jacob Jones of Oakland; step-children, Sara Maschino of Gardiner, and Thomas Maschino of Arizona; grandchild, Tanis Bonenfant of Gardiner; sisters, Donna Burns and husband David of Whiting, Sandra Mathieu and husband Carl of Vassalboro, Cathy Leavitt and husband Rob of Damariscotta, and Brenda Jones and fiancé Dave Page of Damariscotta; brothers, Ron Jones and wife Carol of Jefferson, Wayne Jones and wife Carol of Nobleboro, and Dana Jones and wife Paula of Nobleboro; many nieces and nephews; and his dog, Jack.
Service to celebrate Steve’s life 3 p.m., Sat., Jan. 7 at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. Rev. Robin Honaker will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Steve’s son, Joshua, may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 250 Brackett St., Portland, ME 04102.
