Sylvia Esther Jones, 80, of Farmingdale, previously of Wiscasset, passed away at home to be with the Lord on June 7, after battling 13 courageous years of cancer.
She was born on Nov. 17, 1934, at Gardiner General Hospital in Gardiner to Bernard and Esther Bailey. She attended Gardiner Area High School.
She was employed at Bath Memorial Hospital for 16 years as a CNA, with her mother Esther. She was a member of Pastor Bill Gorman’s Pentecostal Church of Gardiner for many years, and attended several tent revivals in Maine and Nova Scotia. Sylvia and her sisters traveled to nursing homes to worship and sing to patients. She loved her Lord Savior, her family, her church family and her dog Raisen.
Her most happy times were reading the Holy Bible, praising God, being a prayer warrior to many over the years and enjoying fellowship with her family and church families.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Deborah Dyer; brother, Erlon Bailey; sister, Deanna Mansir; and friend and loving husband of 19 years, James Jones.
Sylvia is survived by her daughters, Roseanne Boykin and husband Roger of Aroda, Va., and Louanne Pinkham and husband Michael of Wiscasset; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren with two due this year; many nieces and nephews; and sisters, Reta Russell Lemar of Dresden, Bernadine Bailey of Wiscasset, and Mavis Hinkley of Gardiner.
A public graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thurs., June 11 at the Murphy Corner Cemetery on the Montsweag Road in Woolwich, alongside her husband.
