Terence J. McCabe Sr., 92, recently of Shelton, Conn., entered into rest on July 6 at Griffin Hospital in Derby, Conn. He is the beloved husband of 69 years of Jessie (Cronin) McCabe. Terence was born in the Bronx, N.Y. on Feb. 11, 1922, son of the late Terence Joseph and Nora (Hurley), and attended Mt. St. Michaels HS there.
He entered the Navy in 1942 and served as a signalman aboard U.S. merchant ships as part of the Armed Guard. Terence sailed throughout the world during the war and attained the rank of petty officer, second class.
After the war he was employed by Saks Fifth Avenue, where he worked for over 40 years selling men’s clothing. During this time he lived in the Bronx, Lindenhurst, and Port Washington, L.I., N.Y. In retirement he divided his time between Jefferson and Indio, Cal. He enjoyed golf, boating, and travel. He especially enjoyed his lakefront home in Jefferson, watching sunsets over Damariscotta Lake.
In addition to his wife Jessie, he is survived by children, Noreen Capo and partner Scott Birdwhistell of Falmouth, Mass., Terence McCabe Jr. and wife Moira of Jefferson, Beth McCabe and partner Morgan Fleming of Canton, Conn., Denise Bohl and husband John of South Salem, N.Y., Ken McCabe of Milford, Conn., Chris McCabe and wife Ruth of Corvallis, Mont., and Richard McCabe and partner Zaim of Singapore; and grandchildren, Molly McCabe, husband Brian Gagnon and children Maeve and Sam of Pleasant Hill, Cal., Tom Capo and wife Allison Guillen of Pacifica, Cal., Terence McCabe of Truckee, Cal., John Bohl of Baltimore, Md., Chris Bohl of Brooklyn, N.Y., Ian McCabe of Brooklyn, N.Y., Brian McCabe of Brooklyn, N.Y., Michael McCabe, wife Rachel and son Eli of Tualatin, Ore., and Jeremiah McCabe and wife Christine of Bozeman, Mont.
His sense of humor was a gift to all and will carry on in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
